Staines Town Football Club . . .
An extended playing career at Egham Town, Hates, Windsor & Eton, Maidenhead United, and Yeading (FA Vase winners) led to management with Yeading and then Hampton, where he worked with a shoestring budget to battle relegation. Then went on to Aylesbury United in Summer 2002, where he helped the newly promoted Premier Division club to reach the FA Trophy semi-finals. Joined Staines Town in May 2003, and completely revitalised the playing squad in the following weeks. Won the division’s Manager Of The Month award for January 2004 and has more recently led the Club to a best ever FA Cup (2nd round proper) appearance and also record-breaking back-to-back Ryman League Premier Division runners-up spots, most recently guiding the Club into the Blue Square (Conference) South for season 2009/10. Conference (South) Manager of the Month for Jan 2010.
This experienced player/coach joined the Club from Aylesbury United in summer 2003, as Steve Cordery’s assistant. A proven player at the highest level, he scored over 150 goals in a professional career which started with his local club, Southampton, and moved on to Huddersfield Town, Reading, Swindon Town, Bristol City, and Brighton & Hove Albion. Whilst with the ‘Saints’ he made a dozen or so appearances in the Premiership, scoring once. His pro’ career ended when Leyton Orient released him following the Wembley play-offs in 1999 (after short spells with Dunfermline Athletic, and in Hong Kong with Happy Valley). He first joined ‘Cords’ at Hampton & Richmond Borough, moving on to Aylesbury in summer ’02. In 2002/3, he was amongst the Premier Division’s top marksman with 26 league and cup goals for the ‘Ducks’. A very influential character both on and off the pitch who lends the benefit of his experience to all his team-mates. Can still be seen playing masters football for Southampton, and he coaches for Barnet FC and their Southgate College academy team.
Trent’s main rôle nowadays is as a specialist goalkeeping coach. Trent was in management at Walton Casuals, but made his name as a brave and successful ‘keeper with Staines Town, where he began as a Junior in 1985, and progressed right through to the 1st XI and even the Vets. He has also played for Camberley Town, Walton & Hersham, and Egham Town, as well as representing Middlesex. Son of former Brentford stalwart, Gordon.
